Another Sri Lankan army soldier who had joined the Russian-Ukrainian war has lost his life in a Ukrainian drone attack.
A 27-year-old Sri Lankan, known as Nipuna Silva, has died and it is reported that he died in a Ukrainian drone attack which targeted a Russian bunker. According to reports, a Sri Lankan named Senaka Bandara had been near him and tried to take Nipuna Silva, who was seriously injured in the attack, to a safe place and at that time he had been seriously injured.
“As I was taking Nipuna, there was another massive drone attack near the last bunker. At that time, Nipuna fell to the ground. I had no choice but to leave Nipuna when the Ukrainian drone attacks rained down. Senaka Bandara had said in an audio message sent to Al-Jazeera via WhatsApp.
It has now been revealed that, due to existing economic problems, this Sri Lankan had joined the
Russian army to fight in the Russian-Ukrainian war in order to support his family living in Sri Lanka, and due to the fact that the military salary had not been enough to support his family, he
has decided to leave the army and engage in another job.
