Queensland State in Australia has a formidable mineral and resources and if Sri Lanka companies have products and services that go into mining there are emerging opportunities for them, said Former Director of Migration Queensland State, Greg Mckean.

“Queensland mainly focuses on gold and iron ore and is a big income earner for the state. Many large players from all around the world, Brazil, South Africa, Japan, Korea and other Australian companies, all have big investments there. Hence it’s a major industry and there are great opportunities for Sri Lankan companies to come and invest in this area,” he said at an event hosted by Australia Gateway, a migration company in Austria held at Hilton Colombo Residences recently.

“Australia welcomes foreign investors regardless where they have come from. So, Sri Lankan companies have a great opportunity, said Barrister, Solicitor and Immigration Law Specialist, Australia Gateway Susantha Katugampala.

“The good thing in Australia is you can own a business and Sri Lankan companies can have 100% ownership and undertake delivery investments in Australia.Australia is a leading country of choice among many South Asians who aspire to migrate, especially Sri Lankans. Sri Lankan tourism has a lot of opportunities in Australia and we are pleased to see the arrival number growing. Australia also has abundant migration and employment opportunities for Sri Lankan migrants, mainly for professionals such as accountants, IT professionals, engineers etc. In the case of most individuals the Sri Lankan qualifications alone will be sufficient enough to be eligible to fulfill the migration and employment requirements in Australia as most local Sri Lankan Government University degrees are equivalent to an Australian degree.”

Australia is a rich, stable, well-run nation that makes it an attractive destination for migrants from Asia in general and Sri Lankans in particular.
