Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala recently participated in an inspection tour of Samanturai Primary Hospital which is one of 13 hospitals selected to be developed under a Chinese government funded project.
The Health Secretary said that the construction activities of the three-storied building of the hospital, to be completed at the cost of Rs. 850 million, is currently in the final stage and it would be handed over to the public within the next two months.
Within this three-storied building complex, there are wards, maternity units, drug stores, clinics, non-communicable disease units, blood transfusion centres, laboratories, operating theatres and emergency units. Arrangements have also been made to provide medical equipment to those hospitals under this project.
Mirigama Primary Hospital, Samanturai Primary Hospital, Eravur Primary Hospital, Pottuvil Primary Hospital, Kalpitiya Regional Hospital, Rikillagaskada Primary Hospital, Darga City Regional Hospital, Aluthgama Regional Hospital, Medirigiriya Primary Hospital, Padaviya Primary Hospital, Walasmulla Primary Hospital, Kalawana Primary Hospital and Mahiyangana Primary Hospital have been selected to be developed under this Chinese government funded project. Members of Parliament Faisal Kasim, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Deputy Director General (Medical Supplies) G. Wijesuriya, Kalmunai Divisional Health Services Director Dr. S.R Issadeen and Samanturai Primary Hospital Director M.H.M. Azath were present.
