Annual transfers of health sector employees in the Western Province are temporarily suspended. Western Province Governor, Air vice Marshal Roshan Gunathilaka, has taken this decision following the request made by Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga who met nearly 300 hospital staff and health employees in the Western Province yesterday.

They attended the public day of the Urban Development and Housing Ministry yesterday and presented their facts alleging that the annual health transfers in the Western Province have been done informally without any transparency.

They alleged that these annual transfers were done in an informal manner. Then Minister Ranatunga went to the Western Governor’s office with them and met the Governor.

The Secretary to the Provincial Health Ministry explained the facts and said that the demands and the requests of the trade unions were taken into account in making these annual transfers. However, health workers who joined the discussion said that some health sector trade unions have ignored their demands and worked as they wished. Minister Ranatunga said there that some health trade unions are working to create a conflict between the heads and workers and disrupt the health service and put the government into trouble.
