The UK pledges professional assistance for SL’s Legal Reforms

The United Kingdom (UK) has pledged to extend its professional assistance for the implementation of Sri Lanka’s plans to reform its Justice system.

Minister of Justice, Prisons Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa during his recent visit to the UK, met with the Attorney General (AG) of the UK, Victoria Prentis and informed about the new Legal Reforms taking place in Sri Lanka, including the Anti-Terrorism Bill, Online Safety Act, etc.

The AG of the UK informed the MoJ about the important duties performed by Sri Lankan Lawyers in the UK, and the provision of expert support by the UK in the field of Sri Lanka’s Judiciary.

The MoJ briefed the UK AG about the Bill for the establishment of the Office of National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR) and the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the High Court of Sri Lanka.

British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Rohitha Bogollagama, Sri Lanka High Commission Advisor Hiruni Rajapaksa and ONUR Chairman Charith Marambe also attended the event.
