Member of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and a former Member of Parliament from the United National Front Hirunika Premachandra filed a Fundamental Rights petitions before the Supreme Court challenging the appointment of Deshabandu Thennakoon as the IGP today.
She has named 14 parties including the Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake, Members of the Constitutional Council including Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardhane and IGP Deshabandu Thennakoon as respondents to the petition.
