SLFP completes formalities to form New Alliance

Amendments to UPF constitution done:
Former President CBK’s membership restored:

The formation of the new alliance which includes the SLFP and a number of political parties has been completed with incorporation of amendments to the Constitution of Podujana Eksath Peramuna (United People’s Front).

Subsequent to consulting the proposals of the parties of the alliance, the SLFP has 25 percent power in the leadership board and the working committee, the leadership of the alliance and the posts of Treasurer of the alliance, the National Organizer of the alliance and the Secretary of the alliance. The National Convention of the Podujana Eksath Peramuna will be held next week to get its approval for all these amendments. Future course of actions of the alliance is also scheduled to be made at this convention.

The amendments to the constitution of the United People’s Front have been approved by the working committee meeting of the alliance.Many civil organisations including the Sri Lanka Sama Samaja Party, Communist Party, Tamil and Muslim parties have expressed their interest in joining the new alliance.

Former President Maithripala Sirisena will be the chairman of the new alliance and the alliance agreements will be signed with the partner groups of the alliance this month. Meanwhile, it is reported that Maithripala Sirisena has decided to reactivate and restore the cancelled membership of the SLFP of Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and has informed her about it in writing.
