The Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday ordered to release the former Commando sniper who was arrested on November 10 by the Criminal Investigation Department alleging he was connected to a plan to rescue the underworld goons known as ‘Harak Kata’ and ‘Kudu Salindu’ from CID custody.
The Magistrate made this order due to lack of evidence regarding the suspect.
The Magistrate ordered that the suspect be released subject to filing of charges again whenever necessary. The OIC of the Digital Forensic Division of the Criminal Investigation Department informed Court that the investigation into the incident has not been completed.
The Magistrate informed the Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the incident and report the facts to the court on the next court day. However, three other suspects arrested in connection with the case were ordered to be re-remanded until January 31.
