Kuliyapitiya Magistrate Randika Lakmal Jayalath revoked the bail of Singithi and his wife yesterday (9), when the suspects were presented in Court for the murder of Susitha Jayawansa (31) from Kabalewa area in Kuliyapitiya.

The Magistrate stated that the reason for granting bail to the two suspects the first time was because Police did not object to it, and the Magistrate ordered that the two suspects be remanded until May 13.

Therefore, the bail of the main suspect in the case, Sujith Fernando alias Singithi and his wife Dilani Rasika who are residents of Wassavulla in Kuliyapitiya was revoked by the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate.

Also, Jayasinghe Don Charuka Devinda, a resident of Ilukhena in Wassaulla area who is the brother-in-law of Singithi, the person who was initially considered as the main suspect in Susitha Jayawansa’s murder who was arrested over the murder case on Tuesday by the Kuliyapitiya CID had also been produced to the Court yesterday where the magistrate ordered the suspect to be detained for questioning. It was based on evidence gathered by questioning him that the body of the victim was found in the Panirendawa forest reserve in Madampe.

When the case was called yesterday, Police said that the suspects who were granted bail based on the facts presented to the Court should be re-imprisoned as they are the main suspects in this case.

Police also requested Court for permission to take the sixth suspect in this case, the brother-in-law of Singithi, to the Panirendawa forest reserve, as they have received information that the crime has been committed there. The Magistrate ordered that these suspects be interrogated in front of Prison officials and that the sixth suspect be kept in the custody of Prison officials and accompanied by the requested Police officers to carry out the on-site inspection at the Panirendawa forest reserve. An open verdict was given on the death of the victim Susitha Jayawansa after the post-mortem was conducted on Wednesday (8).
