Veteran actor Suminda Sirisena passed away yesterday (4), at the age of 75.
Sirisena, who excelled in the three-way medium of acting – stage, cinema and small screen – began his career in the 1960s.
He became popular for his role in the stage play Muhudu Puththu. He made his film debut in 1976 with Vijaya Dharma Sri’s movie Duhulu Malak.
Sirisena, who acted in teledramas in the 1980s, contributed to more than 40 popular teledramas such as Asalwasiyo, Sihina Nimnaya, Charitha Thunak, Ramya Suramya, Yasa Isuru, Kumarihami, and Hiruta Muwavi.
He was a consummate actor in cinema, stage drama and television and has won Best Actor awards on many occasions. Sirisena, who had been ill for some time, passed away last morning while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Gampaha.
