Four suspects, including the watchman of an estate belonging to the Acting Magistrate of Puttalam, were arrested by Police while they were digging in the estate in search of an ancient sembuwa ( a pot) made of gold, which they believed was owned by Kuveni, the wife of King Vijaya.

The 25-acre estate is located at the Alankuda area of Norochcholai.

Acting Magistrate of Puttalam ordered the four persons including the watchman to be remanded for 11 days.

Police investigations revealed that the main suspect who is the watchman had brought a kapuwa (a custodian of a devalaya) to this land and he had said that Kuveni’s sembuwa made of gold was buried in the land. Police arrested the four suspects following information they received that they were digging the land for treasure.
