Three dead, 517 from 127 families affected by rains

According to the Disaster Management Centre, three people have died and 517 people from 127 families have been affected due to the inclement weather. Meanwhile, 50 displaced people from 11 affected families have been kept in a safe place in Medadumbara area in Kandy.

The Department of Meteorology says that rain or thundershowers will occur in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, Northwestern and Northern provinces and Galle and Matara districts after 2 p.m. today (24th). The Department of Meteorology requests the people to be cautious to minimize the accidents. The Irrigation Department says that with the current heavy rains, the water level of many rivers in the country is increasing rapidly. The water level of Kelani, Kalu, Nilwala and Walawe rivers is increasing. Similarly, the water level of Attanagalu Oya and Maha Oya is also increasing, the Irrigation Department further states.
