Sri Lanka bags 84 medals at Asian Masters Indoor Games

The Sri Lankan Masters athletes who won 25 gold, 34 silver and 25 bronze medals with a total of 84 medals to win overall eighth place at the 22nd Asian Masters Indoor Games held in the Philippines arrived at Katunayake Airport on Monday.

This championship was held in Manila, Philippines from November 8 to 12 with the participation of 1,884 athletes from 26 Asian countries. Dilip Ekanayake, who competed in the age group of 50-54 years, set up a new Asian Meet Record by completing the 800 meters in 02 minutes and 54 seconds and the 400 meters in 52.07 seconds. Dilip, who works as an executive officer at Hydramania Institute, had won two gold medals for those two events, besides a silver medal for 400 x 4 meters and a bronze medal for 100 x 4 meters relay events.

Dilip is an athlete who has won 32 medals for Sri Lanka in international competitions along with these four medals.

The victorious Lankan Masters team arrived in the country on Monday and officials of the Sports Department of Hydramania Company Limited and the members of the athletes’ families were there to welcome them.
