Sri Lanka’s Embassy in Brussels celebrates Deepavali

Sri Lanka’s Embassy in Brussels celebrated Deepavali, the sacred festival of lights revered by Hindus worldwide, last Saturday (11). The celebration took place at the Sri Lanka Residence in Brussels, drawing a gathering of over 150 members from the diverse Sri Lankan community residing in Belgium and Luxembourg.

During the event, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the EU Grace Asirwatham, extended heartfelt wishes for a joyful and prosperous Deepawali to all Hindu devotees in Belgium and Luxembourg. Ambassador Asirwatham underscored the symbolic significance of Deepawali, emphasizing its representation of triumph over evil and the illumination of light over darkness. She highlighted the festival as an opportunity to unite in friendship and solidarity with the Hindu community of Sri Lankan origin in Belgium and Luxembourg.

The celebration featured a Hindu religious Pooja conducted by Swami Kiridarasarma.. Cultural performances, including presentations by the Embassy staff, students from the ‘Nadantha’ Bharatha Natyam School in Brussels, and members of the Sri Lankan community in Belgium were highlights of the event.

The Deepavali celebrations not only showcased the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka but also served as a platform for fostering inter-community bonds and understanding.
