Sri Lanka landed in 9th place, tallying a combined gross score of 242 (79, 81, 82). South Korea B dominated the team event, securing the lead with an overall gross score of 221 (72, 73, 76) in the opening day of the Selangor International Junior Golf Championship at Malaysia’s Seri Selangor Golf Club yesterday.

Following closely in the team standings were the Philippines with a gross score of 223 (74, 74, 75) securing the 2nd spot, with the host nation Malaysia at 227 (74, 76, 77) taking 3rd place. A total of 14 teams from seven countries are participating in this tournament.

In the individual event, Karthik Singh from India seized the top spot with a gross score of 69. Han Su Min from Korea secured the 2nd position with a gross score of 72, while Cho Min Yung from Korea and Nithidpong Sridhatphirum from Thailand shared the joint 3rd place with a gross score of 73.

The Sri Lankan players faced a mixed fortunes, with Reshan Algama scoring gross score 79, K. Danushan 81 and Adithya Weerasinghe scoring 82, and Jevahn Sathasivam scoring 84. Adithya Weerasinghe, a newcomer, exhibited consistent golf despite two double-bogeys affecting his score. There’s hope that he will deliver improved gameplay in the following rounds.

However, an unfortunate ruling led to Reshan receiving a 6 on a par 3, impacting his score. Hopes remain high for a stronger performance from him in the upcoming rounds.

Both Jevahn and Danushan faced setbacks on the first day, but there’s optimism for their improved performance today, aiming to boost Sri Lanka’s team standing in the championship.
