The Kebithigollewa Division Crime Investigation Unit OIC who was knocked down by a motorcar driven by a Woman Police Sergeant (WPS) and admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital in critical condition died in the early hours of yesterday (3) morning.
Mihintale Police said that the victim IP Sunil Chandrasiri was a resident of Namalwewa in Mihintale. IP Chandrasiri who was riding a motorcycle had been knocked down by a Woman Police Sergeant who was driving a motor car at Welankulama junction on the Anuradhapura-Trincomalee A12 highway on October 8. He was taken to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital and was receiving treatment there when he succumbed to his injuries yesterday morning. The WPS of the Ambanpola Police who was instrumental in causing the accident that knocked down the OIC was later released on bail after being produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s court.
Mihintale Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
