Mitchell Santner celebrating a wicket

Leg spinner Mitchell Santner’s incredible bowling figures of 5/59 earned him the Player of the Match honor. Santner showed a lot of poise and was at his absolute best, utilizing the pitch conditions effectively and dismantling the Netherlands batting line-up single-handedly..He is the first New Zealander to take five wickets in World Cup.

Mitchell Santner spun a web around the Dutch batsmen, stopping their run flow and taking wickets at regular intervals. His five-wicket haul was the key that unlocked the victory gates for New Zealand and the Kiwis registered a comprehensive 99-run victory. His all-around performance also earned him the Player of the Match award.

The leg spinner Santner said they did well as a bowling unit to script a big win after the batters did their job.I really enjoyed bowling at Hyderabad and it gave big boost to me.

“We tried not to be complacent. For, The Netherlands is a very good side too and it was good to pick two points from this game also,” he said. It was a difficult pitch, slightly on the slower side. Nice to be amongst wickets again though I didn’t bowl as well as I did in the opener against England,” Santner said, “But, I showed a little bit more aggression.” added Santner Meanwhile Colin Ackermann, who was the highest scorer for Netherlands (scoring a 73-ball-69), said they played good cricket in patches. “We needed partnerships in chasing such a big score. We thought of a firm base, something like the scoreline reading 150 for four in 30 overs. But lost quick wickets,” he said.

“It is important we put together (a better show) in all three departments. After a couple of days rest, we hope to come back strongly in conditions which should be different.”

Mitchell Santner creates multiple records in Hyderabad match against Netherlands – Mitchell Santner becomes only the third left-arm spinner to have a five-wicket haul in the World Cup history. Yuvraj Singh and Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan are the other two players to achieve that. – Mitchell Santner has now equalled with Daniel Vettori as the joint-best New Zealand spinner with five-for in ODIs. He now has two five-wicket hauls in ODIs.

Mitchell Santner becomes only the 6th New Zealand bowler to have a five-wicket haul in ODIs, and the first Kiwi spinner to do so. – Mitchell Santner also became the first New Zealand player (overall 5th) to complete a double of 30+ runs and five wickets in a World Cup match.
