The Government has decided to grant permanent appointment letters by the end of October, to all the multi-purpose development assistants who were recruited as trainees.
In 2020, the Government recruited 34,700 multi-tasking assistants as trainees, of which there are currently 29,000 people and most of them have been given permanent appointments in Government institutions, Provincial Councils and Local Government State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura said.
The State Minister said this while attending a function, where permanent appointment letters for 267 people under the first phase of confirmation of multi-purpose development assistants in Kegalle district, were handed over. The appointment letters were awarded at the Kegalle Municipal Council Auditorium and the permanent appointments were made under the hundred thousand jobs programme.
State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura, speaking further, pointed out; “The first stage appointments of multi-purpose assistants in Kegalle district of the Sabaragamuwa province are offered in Kegalle. In the year 2020, the Government recruited 34,700 multi-tasking assistants as trainees. There are currently 29,000 of them. Most of them have been given permanent appointments in Government institutions. The remaining people will also be given permanent appointments very soon. Discussions are underway with the Prime Minister to take the necessary steps to complete this programme by October end.
The other problems regarding this have already been solved and they have been implemented and 3,000 people who have served for 10 to 15 years who have not yet been confirmed have been planned to be confirmed and made permanent, as well. We have made arrangements to provide appointments to all those who have been given permanent appointments in their district of residence.
All remaining vacancies have been identified so far for which they need to be appointed to the nearest position. Appointments are being prepared for that. We hope to complete this work by November this year,” he said.
Foreign Affairs State Minister Tharaka Balasuriya, Technology State Minister Kanaka Herath, Kegalle District Development Committee Chairperson Rajika Wickremasinghe, MPs Udayakantha Gunathilake, Sudath Manjula and Sujith Sanjaya, Chief Secretary of the Sabaragamuwa Province, Kegalle District Secretary and others attended the event.
