The Defence Advisor who is appointed recently at the High Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Colonel Muhammad Farooq paid a customary call on General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) at his office today (17 August 2023).
On the arrival of the new Defence Advisor to the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS), General Shavendra Silva warmly welcomed and wished him success in his new appointment.
Commencing the cordial dialogue, the CDS reminded the long-standing bilateral relations between the two nations. Further, he thanked Pakistan for the continued support and cooperation extended to the Sri Lankan Defence Forces over the years, particularly the Tailor-made courses offered in the 1980s for the capacity building of the officer cadre of the Sri Lanka Army. With the continuation of the dialogue, later General Shavendra Silva reminded him of the responsibilities of a Defence Advisor and encouraged him to further strengthen the defence relations with Sir Lanka. The CDS assured the highest cooperation from the Sri Lankan Armed Forces to discharge his duties in his new appointment for the betterment of the defence forces of both countries.
Before exchange of mementoes to mark the occasion, the CDS also invited Colonel Muhammad Farooq to explore the beauty and heritage of Sri Lanka during his tenure.
