Watawala Police said that 18 people were injured when a bus ran off the road and overturned on a cliff near Watawala Sinhala College located Hatton-Colombo main road at around 4.40 in the morning yesterday (1).
The accident happened to a bus belonging to the Nuwara Eliya Depot travelling from Colombo to Nuwara Eliya. Eighteen passengers including a woman have been admitted to Watawala Government District Hospital due to injuries. Watawala Hospital doctors said that the injured had broken bones, bruises and other minor injuries.
Watawala Hospital doctors said that after initial treatment, they were transferred to Nawalapitiya Primary Hospital for further treatments. Passengers who came there said that there were about 120 passengers on the bus at the time of the accident and the bus was suffering from various mechanical faults on the way.
The driver and conductor also sustained minor injuries and they have been taken into Watawala police custody for further investigation.
