Chief Government Whip and Minister Prasanna Ranatunga told Parliament yesterday that a decision will be taken with the Election Commission regarding the candidates who have given nominations for the Local Government elections from political parties and independent groups.
The Minister said that his party is also of the position that such a decision should be taken.
The Minister said this while replying to a statement made by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in Parliament. This is a problem faced by candidates from all political parties and independent groups. In the past, the Prime Minister acted according to a letter submitted by the Elections Commission with regard to them. We will draw the Prime Minister’s attention to this, inform the new Election Commission, and take a decision on this soon.
