Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa told Parliament yesterday that the public servants who have given nominations are facing a serious problem with their jobs due to the continuous postponement of the Local Government elections.

He said that 533 public servants have given nominations representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya. The Opposition Leader further said public servants from other political parties who have given nominations are facing the same issue. “Some government servants have received only their basic salary from March to April 25 and no allowances received. They have received nothing between April 25 and May 10. Some government employees have problems with getting leave as well. These problems affect the entire service life of public servants. It affects their promotions. Therefore, even though it is said that the problems of the public servants who have given nominations have been solved due to the postponement of the Local Government elections, they have not been solved. We urge the government to resolve these issues by issuing a new circular,” he said.
