CDB clinch MCA T10 Cricket Title

A swashbuckling half century by Shevon Daniel (65 runs in 27 balls, inclusive of 6 sixes and 4 fours) and a hat-trick by Muditha Lakshan (4/3) propelled Citizens Development Business Finance (CDB) to an overwhelming 74 runs win over Seylan Bank, in the final of the Inaugural Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) T/10 Cricket Tournament 2024, concluded on Sunday (5) at the MCA ground.

The historic tournament, the first ever held in the country was proudly sponsored by Assetline Insurance Brokers Ltd, together with David Pieris Leisure “Pearl Bay” Bandaragama.

Sent in to bat first CDB Finance made a quick fire opening stand of 85 runs in 38 balls. Shevon Daniel (65) and Dilan Jayalath (25) finished their 10 overs with a formidable 127 for 4.

In reply Seylan Bank meekly surrendered with a paltry 53 for 9 in 10 overs, having no answer to the accurate bowling by Muditha Lakshan and Tharindu Ratnayake (3 for 13).

Prior to the final in the morning, the semi-finals were played and following are the brief results.

First semi-final: Seylan Bank beat HNB by 4 wickets.

Seylan Bank: 69 for 6 in 10 overs and HNB: 47 all out in 8.3 overs.

Second semi-final: CDB Finance beat LOLC by 9 wickets.

LOLC: 78 all out in 9.2 overs and CDB Finance: 83 for 1 in 6.2 overs.

Special Awards (based on performances up to the final)

 

Best Bowler – Muditha Lakshan from CDB Finance (6 matches, 53 runs, 16 wickets).

Best Batsman – Shevon Daniel from CDB Finance (6 matches, 183 runs, inclusive of two half centuries)

Man of the Series: Lasindu Nimsara from Seylan Bank (6 matches, 151 runs, 6 wickets and 6 catches)

Man of the final, – Muditha Lakshan from CDB Finance.

President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Shammi Silva was the chief guest and presented the main award.
