Colombo District Member of Parliament Jagath Kumara Sumithraarachchi stated in Parliament yesterday (7) that his house experienced a power disconnection without any prior notice.

He raised this issue during a debate between the ruling party and the opposition about power outages.

The MP highlighted that his previous month’s electricity bill was only Rs. 12,000, expressing concern over the abrupt disconnection of power, which he noted could happen to anyone.

“I had attended many funerals and meetings, and when I returned home in the morning, I found that the electricity has been cut off without any notification. If this can happen to me, what about ordinary, innocent people? Isn’t the Ceylon Electricity Board supposed to be accountable?” he questioned.

In response to these concerns, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera announced that the CEB would conduct an investigation into the matter.
