Wathupitiya Pathiranage Damith Prabasitha Attanayaka alias ‘Makola Sudda’, a notorius drug trafficker who conducts the crime network of the deceased underworld gang leader ‘Makandure Madush’, was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) yesterday.
Based on information received by the STF Intelligence Unit, steps had been taken to check a suspicious car near the Kerawalapitiya Expressway, Police Media said.
At the time, the suspicious car has attempted to flee, injuring an STF officer in the process. While the car was reversed in a hurry, the rear of the vehicle had knocked and had been damaged and it had attempted to flee through the special service entrance of the Expressway.
Due to a tyre puncture and unable to drive the car, the suspect has got off the vehicle and has tried to run on the highway to escape arrest. However, the STF officers arrested the suspect and had seized 19.65 grams of Ice that was in his possession at the time.
After questioning the suspect, another suspect was arrested with 1 kg and 22 grams of Ice near the Thotalanga shopping Complex in the Grandpass Police Division.
The second suspect who was arrested is a 36-year-old drug trafficker who is maintaining close links with the deceased underworld leader Makandure Madush’s gang, it has been revealed.
The two suspects have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations and the injured STF officer has been admitted to the Ragama Teaching Hospital for treatment.
