Thinuga Limath Methwin the karate star from Ranala

Sixteen year old up and coming Karate Player, Brown Belt Holder and twice Intermational representative , Bronze Medalist for Kumite in the South Asian Karate Championship held in Sri Lanka, Gold Medalist for Kata and Kumite Thinuga Limath Methwin has brought honour and immensc glory to his two schools Junior School Dedigamuwa, Ranala and St. Francis Maha Vidyalaya Dalugama, Kelaniya and his motherland with his deeds in the field of Karate.

Thinuga who hails from Dedigamuwa, Ranala was born on 15th November 2007 and initially admitted to his village school

in 2013 and in 2015 he was drafted to his present school and in 2016 he showed an interest in Karate and his parents Shamal Suranga and Chandima Priyadarshani noticing this handed over him to the school coaches Wasantha Seneviratne and Mrs. Kumudini Priyanka and his first attempt was in 2017 and in the under 11 Gampaha District Tournament he won a Bronze Medal for Kata.

His second meet was Schools Junior Championship 2018 and in the same age group he won a Bronze for Kata and at the Western Provincial Meet he won a Bronze for Kata in the under 12 age group and in the Gampaha District Meet he grabbed another Bronze for Kata and at the National Karate Championship he won a Gold Medal for Kata and at the Sri Lanka Schools Senior Meet he won Golds for Kata and Kumite and at the Western Province Meet a Silver in Kumite and with all these performances under his Belt he was selected to participate at the 20th Milo International Karate Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and he came upto Best Eight.

He was selected for the Sri Lanka Schools team to participate at the South Asian Karate Championship held in Sri Lanka and he won a Bronze for Kumite in under 15 age group and at the 2022 National Schools Western Province Meet he won a Bronze for Kata and in the All Island Meet Silver for Kata in the under 16 event and at the National Schools Provincial Meet a Bronze for Kumite and in the All Island Meet a Silver in Kumite at the under 18 age category and in the Sri Lanka Senior Schools Games a Bronze in Kata and fnally at the National Kumite Independent Karate Championship in the under 18 event he won a Gold for Kata. During a span of six years he has won 16 Medals which includes five Golds three Silvers and eight Bronzes.
