Physiotherapist nabbed for selling Ice

Tangalle Division Police Anti-Corruption Unit arrested a physiotherapist working at the Hambantota General Hospital who was involved in the distribution of the narcotic ice in areas including Hambantota, Ambalantota, Tissamaharama and Suriyawewa.

According to Police, at the time of his arrest, he had 04 grams and 500 milligrams of ice in his possession. The suspect is a 40-year-old father of one.

A raid was conducted by a team of officers of the Tangalle Division Anti-Corruption Unit based on information that the narcotic was being sold in the Samodagama area of Hambantota.

During the raid, a Samodagama resident had been arrested with 570 milligrams of ice and during interrogation, the person had told the police that a paramedic at the Hambantota General Hospital was running the racket.

Accordingly, following the search of the suspected medical officer’s house located in the Dodolkade area of Hambantota, the suspect was arrested along with 04 grams and 500 mg of ice found in his house.

According to the information received from the suspect, a 38-year-old resident of Embilipitiya was also arrested with 470 milligrams of ice.

During questioning, it was revealed that the physiotherapist bought one gram of ice from Maligawatta in Colombo for Rs. 13,000 and sold one gram in Hambantota for Rs. 25,000, Police said.

Police uncovered much information related to the trafficking of ice, during questioning of the suspect.

The three suspects, including the arrested physiotherapist, have been handed over to the Hambantota Headquarters Police for further investigation and the suspects are to be presented to the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court.
