Vidyartha College Kandy  rugby team will start the season by confronting St Josephs College Colombo at Havelock Park on June 14 The other matches are   , 23rd June vs Royal College at Nittawela, 28th June vs Kingswsood College at Bogambara grounds, 7th July vs St. Peters College at Nittawela, and 13th July vs Zahira College at Maradana.Their all-important traditional game is with Ananda College for the William Gopallawa Shield .

The ruggerite that learnt his rugby at Vidyartha College Sumedha Malawana has been given the duties of grooming  his old school rugby team for the 2024 schools rugby season. Former Navy and Sri Lanka number eight Sumedha Malawana who has coached this school earlier is a well known figure in   rugby. So, in the coming season Vidyartha College is sure to give their best for the oval-shaped ball game under his guidance. Vidyartha College has produced some top rugby players in the recent past. This school was founded in 1942 and started their sports with football and hockey. It was in 1960’s that rugby was introduced to and thereafter, Kandy SC Committee of the early days helped them to find their feet by permitting the use of their grounds at Nittawela.

1st Kandy’S  “Battle of               Hill country”   

The first ever cricket big match called the “Battle of the Hill Country” was played between Karagaskada Central College vs Siddhartha College Ampitiya. which was a one day limited over’s big match played at the Asgiriya stadium Karagaskada Central College defeated Siddhartha College to win the match by  two wickets. The interesting and close game was won by Karagaskada Central College.

In this game Siddhartha College batting first went to score 266 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs, Chamalka Ishan batted well to score 97 and Sadika Dewmina 77  had some good hits right round the wicket, Induwara Nisal bowled well to take 4 for 33 in ten overs in reply Karagaskada College scored 267 for 8 in 41.1 overs Ashan Tharuka scored 105 with some good hits and Vihaga Nirmal 52 not out. M. Rislan 3 for 53, Kaveesa Akalanka 2 for 30 and Ahamika Ishan 2 for 33 who took the wickets.

Siddhartha College 266 for 7 in 50 overs –  Chamalka Ishan 97, Sadika Dewmina 77, and M. Rislan 18, Induwara Nisal 4 for 33, Buddima Haansana 1 for 48, Chamalka Taranga 1 for 51.

Karagaskada Central College 267 for 8 in 41.1 over’s – Sashan Tharuka 105, Vihaga NIrmal 52 not out, Induwara Nisal 17, M. Rislan 3 for 52, Kaveesa Akalanka 2 for 30, Chamalka Ishan 2 for 33.
