Most Ven. Mahanayake Thera and the Karaka Sangha Sabha of the Malwatta Chapter of the Shyamopali Maha Nikaya recently conferred an Honorary Title on Ven. Gyoichi Takashima Thera from Japan, in recognition of his services to the Buddha Sasana and the Sri Lankan society in general.
Ven. Gyoichi Takashima Thera came to Sri Lanka in 1975 and has been living in the country for about five decades since then.
The purpose of his first visit was to supervise the construction of the Japanese Peace Pagoda in Gangulathenna in Sri Pada. He has worshiped the Sri Pada Sacred peak 1,416 times since he came to Sri Lanka.
