Ven. Dr. Valeboda Gunasiri Thera said that in order to build an entrepreneurial culture in the country, the Government should give maximum support to industries.
If the industrialists do not have the facilities to continue the development of those industries, they will be weakened. Therefore, maximum support should be given to the industrialists and entrepreneurs by the Government and by the Government agency, Ven. Gunasiri Thera added.
The Thera made these comments while participating in the Bhikshu Kathika programme organised by the Industrial Development Board (IDB) recently in Colombo.
“We must work to solve the various problems, obstacles, etc. in relation to entrepreneurship in the country. For that, we must get full support from the Industrial Development Board and the Government. The self-confidence that has been lost should be restored and the entrepreneurs should be encouraged in the same way,” the Thera said.
The Thera asked not to bring politics into this exercise of creating an industrial revolution. The IDB will work to provide the support needed to build this country. It has been mentioned with pleasure that all monks participating in the Bhikshu Kathika will take the lead in providing necessary support to the steps taken to create an entrepreneurial culture.
IDB Chairman Saranga Alahapperuma said that an export-oriented production economy should be created under the Industry Ministry. It is the active module of the country’s economic development. An entrepreneurial culture and an entrepreneurial mindset should be created in our country.
“The public service is currently around 15 percent of our country’s workforce, while more than 70 percent of people are employed by private sector businesses. Therefore, the country’s production should create an economy,” said Alahapperuma.
