Former President Maithripala Sirisena rallied the attendees with fervent calls for unity and reform. “May Day is the worker’s day in an International Workers’ Day rally held by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in Gampaha.

“All of you who came here today are considered heroes who came to save the country,” Sirisena declared to the crowd.During his speech, Sirisena expressed the following views as well. “Those who forced their way into the party office threatened the organizers, saying they would break their limbs.

“Currently, 11 out of 14 of us are ministers, and two out of three are not. Mr. Wijeyedasa is not like those who defected to the government. The ministers have joined us.

Their activities do not concern us; the people support us beyond mere names. In the upcoming elections, we should present ourselves with renewed energy. Yesterday, a woman mentioned that the Sri Lankan National Party needs to rely on someone. However, if anyone wishes to rely on someone, they have the freedom to choose their support. We are heartbroken. The government that was formed does not owe its existence to any one individual. There are no thieves capable of resolving today’s crisis. A new country must be envisioned. We were misled in the 2019 presidential election. Following that, daughters and sons established other parties”

Also speaking at the rally was Justice Minister Dr.Wijeyedasa Rajapakshe who expressed his optimism about the significance of the rally.”This May Day will change the future of the country,” Rajapaksa proclaimed.

He expressed the following views as well. “We chose Gampaha deliberately. It is within the jurisdiction that was once overseen by Ms.Sirima Bandaranaike and Mr.Bandaranaike, and it is also the birthplace of the sixth Executive President. We selected Gampaha for these significant reasons. I hold immense respect for your trust in us. Remembering the struggles from 450 years ago, during the Age of European Imperialism, local heroes like Mr. Bandaranaike fought for freedom, thinking differently and standing apart. He was tragically killed for establishing a party dedicated to the welfare of the country’s medical professionals, teachers, and farmers.”
