It was evident that May Day rallies organized by the United National Party (UNP), The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna(SLPP) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) in Colombo drew massive crowds not second to any.
It was also special that a huge crowd participated in the May Day rally organized by the UNP by placing their trust in President Ranil Wickremesinghe as an individual leader.
Political observers said that the crowds at the UNP, SLPP and Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) rallies far exceeded the crowds at all other rallies.
It was reported that although a large crowd gathered at the JVP rally in Colombo, their rallies in Jaffna and Anuradhapura did not draw much crowds. But their rally in Matara saw considerable crowd participation.
Of the May Day rallies in the upcountry plantation areas, the CWC May Day rally drew the largest crowd.It was also significant that people had reserved several trains to come to Colombo to participate in the UNP May day rally.
