The murals at the Neelagiri Raja MahaVihara are in a dilapidated state. The plaster on the walls and other places are cracked and pieces are falling off. The Buddha statues are in need of restoration.

Neelagiriri Raja MahaViharaya was constructed at the inception of Anuradhapura period. During the reign of King Rajadhi Rajasingha, this temple once again gained importance.

Chief Incumbent of Neelagiri Raja Maha Vihara Ven. Madahapola Gunarathana Thera said the Archeology Department needs to take action to restore the murals, statues and other artefacts.
