Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media, Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana engaged in a visit to observe the progress of construction on the Northern railway track section from Mahawa to Anuradhapura.
The Minister observed the construction being carried out at the Mahawa Railway Station, areas surrounding Galgamuwa Railway Station, Sri Lanka’s first Wildlife Tunnel being built in the Galgamuwa, Kasikote-Gatadivula area. The Director (Projects) of Indian Ircon International Co. in charge of the construction of this project, K. Singh also joined the visit to observe the construction of the Wildlife Tunnel.
The newly constructed office of the Assistant Commissioner of Commerce at the Anuradhapura Railway Station premises and the surrounding premises were also visited by the Minister.
The Minister also instructed to provide some of the buildings presently closed and unused, for sanitary purposes and for the partaking of meals by pilgrims coming to Anuradhapura.
Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and Highways, Ranjith Rubasinghe, Pahiyangala Ananda Sagara Thera, Chairman of Surakimu Lanka Foundation, Chief General Manager of Iracon International Co., Railway Deputy General Manager (Traffic) N.J. Indipolage were present among others.
