Army Commander visits injured in Fox Hill tragedy

Army Commander Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage arrived at Diyatalawa Base Hospital soon after the accident at Fox Hill to inquire about the medical conditions of the injured, states Army media unit.

During the visit, the Army Chief spoke with the medical officials to inquire about the conditions of the injured. He interacted with the injured personnel and their families, expressing the deepest regret regarding the unexpected incident.

Major General S.P.A.I.M.B. Samarakoon, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General S.R.B. Aluvihare, Commander of Security Forces – Central, Major General D.K.B. Niyangoda, Adjutant General, Senior Officers, Officers and other Ranks participated.

The Fox Hill Supercross 2024 was held on Sunday (21) at the Fox Hill Supercross track. During the 17th race under the 1500cc Ford Laser Mazda 323 category, two cars collided near the pines corner, just 150 metres from the starting point. One of the cars that collided in this way skidded off the track and seven were killed and 21 others were injured and admitted to the Diyatalawa Base Hospital.

Afterwards, ten patients were transferred to the Badulla Teaching Hospital for further treatment. Following this incident, the event was suspended by the organisers.
