The Department of Motor Traffic is preparing a Cabinet paper containing recommendations for registering vehicles used for motor racing.
Motor Traffic Commissioner Nishantha Anuruddha said yesterday (22) that this step was taken in accordance with the instructions given by the Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana following the tragic accident on Sunday at the Diyatalawa Fox Hill races where seven persons were killed.
The Commissioner had stated before the Minister that many problems have arisen due to the non-registration of most of the vehicles used for racing, at the Department of Motor Traffic. The Minister has advised to prepare a new procedure for the registration of vehicles used for racing.
Accordingly, he added that a Cabinet paper with a new system related to the registration of vehicles used for racing will be prepared and handed over to the Minister immediately.
