The Nuwara Eliya Police are investigating complaints of robberies at the official residences of the Nuwara Eliya Assistant Election Commissioner (AEC) and that of the Nuwara Eliya Assistant Regional Secretary (ARS), both located in Cretan Village, Nuwara Eliya, which had been broken into on Wednesday (17), when the two officers, along with their families were out for the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
Two gold necklaces weighing over 2 sovereigns, two rings weighing over 2 sovereigns, a 32-inch TV, a Laptop and a washing machine had been stolen from the AEC’s residence, while 4×12.5kg gas cylinders and a 32-inch TV were stolen from the ARS’s residence.
To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the incidents. Police suspect that both thefts have been committed by the same persons.
The Nuwara Eliya Police is conducting investigations with aid of police dogs.
