Rupavahini Avurudu Kumara – Ravindu Madhushan:
Thisuri Dinelka Sanjeewani and Ravindu Madhushan were crowned as the Avurudu Kumariya and Avurudu Kumaraya respectively at the ‘Ru Kirula – 2024’ New Year competition organised by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) with the media sponsorship of ‘Tharuni’ newspaper at the studio No.3 of the SLRC.
Out of 14,000 female and 3,700 male applicants for the competition, a total of 2,000 female and 1,000 male applicants had been shortlisted and called to the SLRC premises on February 24 and 25. Of them 12 female and 12 male applicants had been short listed to the final round of the competition and they had participated in several training and workshop programmes for 50 days before the grand finale.
In addition to the Avurudu Kumara and Kumariya competition, the most popular Kumara and Kumariya were also crowned at the grand finale.
Stage Direction of the event was done by Pathum Sasanka, choreography direction was done by Rozenne Diasz and dancing direction was done by Dr. Channa Wijewardena.
The panel of judges of the grand finale consisted of Rozanne Dias, Dr. Channa Wijewardena, artistes Dhananjaya Siriwardena, Roshan Ranawana, Udari Perera and Sanjani Onali and beautician Nadeesha de Silva.
The winner of the grand finale of the Avurudu Kumariya competition was crowned by her predecessor of 2023 Chamini Wickramasinghe and the winner of Avurudu Kumara competition was crowned by his predecessor of 2023 Prashan Silva.
The winners of the competitions were awarded with sashes and prizes by the Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana, SLRC Chairman Dr. Prasad Samarasinghe, Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board Ajith Gunaratne Naragala and the sponsors of the event.
