Eight Sri Lankans rescued from the cyber slave camp in Myanmar were handed over to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Bangkok for repatriation yesterday (11).

According to the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar Janaka Bandara, this group of victims will be repatriated through the Sri Lankan Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, within the next few days.

After being rescued from the slave camp, the eight Sri Lankans were detained by the Myawaddy Police in Myanmar until they were released to the authorities in the Sri Lankan Mission in Myanmar.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Myanmar together with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Thailand following discussions with Myanmar authorities were able to get the victims released from the police, he said.

The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar further said that the authorities are working on a strategic plan to rescue the other 48 Sri Lankans being detained in the same camp. Such a strategic plan has to be followed as the area where this camp is situated is out of control of the Myanmar military.
