A special investigation has been initiated into the drug stocks purchased through the Indian Credit Line, when Keheliya Rambukwella was the then Health Minister, Deputy Solicitor General (DSG) Lakmini Girihagama informed the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The DSG informed Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrema that the data relating to the drug stocks of the Health Ministry obtained from the relevant software, by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has to be referred to the Government Analyst in order to analyse and obtain a report.

She informed this to the court when the case on substandard human immunoglobulin purchase case was called before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court to issue the order on the bail applications filed by the 10th and 11th suspects of the case.

However, the Magistrate rejected the bail application filed by the 10th suspect in the case, the former Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Health Saman Ratnayake and he was further remanded until the final determination of the case. The Magistrate also ordered the Superintendent of the Welikada Prison to call a report from five doctors including JMOs over the health condition of the 11th suspect, the former Deputy Director of the Medical Supplies Division Dr. Thusitha Sudarshana and submit it to the court on April 22.
