21st ‘Battle of the Golds’ ends in a draw

The fourth cricket big match of Kandy between Wariyapoal Sri Sumangala College and Sri Rahulla College ended in a draw at the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium last evening, with Sri Rahulla College taking the major honors of the game with a superb display of cricket. And on first innings lead Sri Rahulla College were able to take the Yasarthne Tennakoon trophy to Katugastota, and Sri Rahulla skipper Vishal Gardiwasam was awarded the man of the match award.

On the first day Sri Rahulla College scored 303 for 6 wickets and in reply Sri Sumangala College were 36 for 2 wickets at stumps. Continuing from the overnight first day’s score Sri Sumagala College were all out for 159 runs and were asked to follow on and were 145 for 5 at the end.

Sri Rahula College 303 for 6 declared in 69.3 over’s (Vishal Gardiyawasam 149, Thavisha Shenal 43, Kawya Ashan 35, Dineth Abeyasekara 34, Swidu Chanuka 2 for 52, Rashan Hamdoon 1 for 27, Movidu Dineth 1 for 12 and Sayauranga Wijearthne 1 for 54)

Sri Sumanagala College 36 for 2 in 14 overs overnight 159 all out 60.2 over’s (Rasin Hmdon 12, Nimnesh Senavirthne 25, Mavidu Denth 31, Vishal Gardiwasam 3 for 23, Dineth Abeyasekara 2 for 19, Thaveesha Shenai 2 for 19) and 145 for 5 in 55 overs (Aruj Nihara Ekanayake 44, Banuak Dissanayke 39, Vishal Garddiwsam 1 fort 44, Pahan Bandarta 1 for 29, Dineth Abeyasekara 1 for 26)
