Sri Lanka Industrial Development Board (IDB) Chairman Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma said that in building an entrepreneurial culture in the country, trained entrepreneurial consultants play a prominent role.

“In order to practically win economic development in our country, we must build an export-oriented manufacturing economy. For that, a culture of entrepreneurship should be created in this country,” he emphasised.

Alahapperuma said that for the first time, the IDB started training industrial entrepreneurship consultants to provide proper guidance to the existing industrial entrepreneurs and future industrial entrepreneurs in order to spread the role of creating an entrepreneurship culture from the grassroots level. He said this recently at the ceremony to award certificates to the instructors who completed the training workshop for the ‘Industrial Entrepreneurship Training Instructor’ programme organised by the IDB.

This Industrial Entrepreneurship Training Instructor course was held for 10 days with the participation of 34 scholars representing various academic professions. During this 10-day workshop, students who participated in the workshop were given practical knowledge through a syllabus containing strategies for starting new industrial enterprises, effectively developing existing enterprises, and developing the entrepreneurial skills of the students. The students with various skills who participated in this workshop said that they will contribute their maximum to the economic development of the country and they will take steps to provide training to the entrepreneurs.

“To move this programme from the city to the ground level of the village aiming to create an entrepreneurship culture to build an export-oriented production economy, we need your contribution and support. In fact, I would like you to give your knowledge to entrepreneurs nationwide as an additional teaching to build our businesses scientifically and strategically,” he said. IDB Director General H.M.S. Samarakoon, Deputy Director Ranjith Padmalal and other officials were present at the ceremony.
