Court issued an order yesterday (3) preventing actress Damitha Abeyratne and her husband from leaving the country. They have been accused of defrauding Rs.3 million, by collecting money from people promising to send them to Korea.
The Magistrate made this order after considering a request made by the Computer Crimes Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who filed a motion before Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage.
The CID informed court that Damitha Abeyratne’s husband has businesses in Dubai and that they were going to flee there.
Police submitted a B report stating that they had searched, based on a search warrant, the house where she and her husband lived and several relatives’ houses and that they had fled from those houses.
Sergeant Gunaratne of the CID Computer Crimes Division told court that the phone analysis reports of these two persons have been called for. The Court of Appeal had ruled on Tuesday (2) and refused to issue an interim restraining order preventing the arrest of Damitha Abeyratne and her husband under the Immigration and Emigration Act.
Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage who considered the request made by filing an expected bail application so that they could be released on bail, issued his order and rejected the request on March 27.
