  • Another NPP activist remanded
  • JMO raises suspicion

Amila Vimani Kodituwakku (48), a prominent activist of the Teldeniya Women’s Wing of the National People’s Power (NPP), has been murdered, Police said.

The person who has been arrested in connection with this murder is Saman Kodituwakku (50), a dual citizen who is said to have retired from the service of the Australian Army. He is currently in remand for this murder.

Police said that information has been revealed that Saman Kodituwakku was also working as an activist of the NPP.

Amila Kodituwakku was a married woman and a resident of Kundasale Viduranga Estate. Police said that the suspect Saman Kodituwakku resides in Kundasale Narendrasinghe Mawatha. Amila Vimani Kodituwakku was a cooperative inspector.

On March 24, Saman Kodituwakku admitted her to the Kandy Hospital saying that she fell in the bathroom and was injured.

The hospital had later informed the Police about the injuries as they looked suspicious.

The JMO of the Kandy Hospital had told Police officers that the injuries were not caused by a fall in the bathroom, but that they were caused by an assault as there were injuries all over the body.

The Police officers had called the Kandy Crime Scene Investigation Unit and had inspected the house at Narendrasinghe Mawatha, where she purportedly had the accident. Police information stated that the JMO also participated. In that investigation, it was clearly found that she did not fall in the bathroom.

When questioning the owner of the house, Saman Kodituwakku, the Police officers had some doubts about his behaviour and the answers he gave. Also, this person has been trying hard to avoid the Police after this incident. Later the Police had arrested Saman as a suspect in the murder.

During a lengthy interrogation by the Police, he had said that there was an argument between the two that day and she was injured after falling down the stairs.

Police said Saman Kodituwakku was presented to the Teldeniya Magistrate’s Court on March 27 as the medical examination showed that the deceased had been brutally beaten.

Police said that after considering the facts presented, the Court remanded him for 14 days and Amila Vimani Kodituwakku, who was recuperating in the ICU for almost a week, died on March 30.

It has been revealed in the investigation that this person who is alleged to have killed his mistress is married to an Australian woman and he came to Sri Lanka three months ago. It is stated that since she was a political activist of the National People’s Power, he followed her and joined the political activities of that party.
