‘Parliament Premier League’ 2024: Golden Flames win Women’s Championship

The ‘One to One’ team, led by Rumesh Malinda, who were champions last year, succeeded in winning the ‘Parliament Premier League’ 2024 (PPL) Parliamentary Staff Inter-Departmental Softball Cricket Tournament. Furthermore, the ‘Diyawanna Super 11’ team led by Hasith Kodituvakku became the runners up of the tournament.

This cricket tournament organized annually by the Parliamentary Sports Club was held on 29.03.2024 at G.H. Buddhadasa Ground, Battaramulla sponsored by the SANASA Insurance. Members of Parliament were also present at the tournament which was presided over by the Hon. Ajith Rajapakse, Deputy Speaker.

A mounting match was also held between the cricket team consisting of the Members of Parliament under the leadership of Hon. Ajith Rajapakse, Deputy Speaker and the SANASA staff, in which the SANASA staff team emerged victorious.

The championship of the women’s cricket team was won by the “Golden Flames” team led by Githani Vidanapathirana. It was significant as the said team emerged as the champions the previous year as well. The Parliament Angels team led by Nilakshi Dharmadasa were the runner-up.

The awarding of trophies and prizes to the winning teams and the best players of the championship was held under the patronage of the Deputy Speaker and the founder and chairman of SANASA Dr. P.A. Kiriwandeniya, the Head of SANASA Societies Development Mr. Thusitha Weerawardena and officials, the Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Mr. Chaminda Kularatne, Assistant Secretary General Mr. Hansa Abeyaratne and the heads of departments were also present on this occasion.

Kasun Maduranga of the team One to One won the man of the series award and it was significant as he gave it away to Gihan Wijebandara of the same team. Kasun Maduranga also won the man of the match of the final and Supun Samaraweera of the ‘Diyawanna Super 11’ team won the best batsman award of the tournament. Moreover, L.A.M.P Sankalpa of ‘One to One’ team emerged as the best bowler and the best fielder of the tournament
