Properties, assets valued at over Rs.110 Mn impounded

Many vehicles and properties worth more than Rs.110.3 Mn have been impounded by the Illegal Assets Investigation Division yesterday (29) and the Inspector General Deshabandu Tennakoon participated in inspecting the impounded properties and vehicles.

The vehicles and property that were seized on January 21 had among them one Isuzu Freezer truck worth Rs. 6.5 mn, a Honda motorcycle valued at Rs.500,000, a backhoe machine worth Rs.10 mn and a multi-day fishing vessel valued at Rs.11 mn.

Vehicles and property seized on January 26 included a Honda Dio type motorcycle with a value of Rs.400,000, one Toyota KDH van valued at Rs.14mn, a three wheeler worth Rs. 1 mn and three houses, one shop and five lands valued at Rs. 53 mn in total. The vehicles and property seized on March 27 had among them a 40’ 4” long multi-day sailing yacht with 185 horsepower Hyundai engine valued at Rs.15 mn, one multi-day fishing vessel manufactured at Harsha Marine Institute in Seenigama, Meetiyagoda having paid Rs. 5.2 mn for production and two lands that were valued at Rs. 21mn.

Accordingly, it has been revealed that the total market value of vehicles and properties which have been legally barred from selling under Section 7 (1) of the Money Laundering Act is over Rs. 110.3 mn.
