A writ application filed by Health Ministry’s Medical Supplies Division Director Dr.Kapila Wickramanayake challenging the denial of bail to him by the Maligakanda Magistrate Lochana Abeywickreme was fixed for support for April 1 by the Court of Appeal yesterday.
Dr. Wickramanayake was arrested by the CID on November 20 last year and is currently in remand custody over the controversial substandard human immunoglobulin vaccine purchase case.
The Magistrate had refused bail to him on several occasions despite bail applications having been filed by the petitioner and accordingly, he has filed this writ application.
The petitioner has named five parties including the Inspector General, the Criminal Investigations Department Director and Maligakanda Magistrate Lochana Abeywickreme as respondents. President’s Counsel Dr.Romesh de Silva with President’s Counsel Sarath Jayamanna appeared for the petitioner yesterday.
