Ven.Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera who was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment for the defamatory comments made against Islam religion on Kuragala Temple has been sent to the ‘R’ ward of the Welikada Prison.MP Sarath Fonseka was also detained in this prison cell in the Welikada prison.
Jail officials have given prison uniform (jumper) to Ven.Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera who was brought to Welikada prison at around 1.00 pm yesterday and he has not expressed any objection to wearing the jumper at this time,” Prison sources state that he told the Prison officials that he would go inside the cell and get dressed.
Ven.Gnanasara Thera was not registered yesterday (28) and will be given a prison number today (29). He will be presented to the prison doctor today.
Prior to this, he was sentenced to six years in prison and was released on May 23, 2019, after almost two years, on a presidential pardon.
