Excise Commissioner General M. J. Gunasiri said that the excise duty income has recorded a significant growth of 38.5 percent compared to February 2023.
Due to the increase in the price of alcohol, compared to January 2023, the production of alcohol decreased by 657,000 litres in January 2024, Gunasiri said.
He further said that special teams have been deployed across the country to conduct raids to apprehend those engaged in illegal alcohol sales in the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year festive season.
