Dialogue on Village Development

A scholarly dialogue on a new approach to village development based on the vision of Chandrapala Liyanage, who has been serving in the journalism sector since 1994, will be held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI) on Thursday (28) at 3:30 p.m. under the theme “Ratak Watina Gamak Hadamu” (Let’s build a village of value).

Many scholars are going to participate in this dialogue as resource persons. In this event, the new experience of a futuristic development concept presented by Liyanage based on his long-term experience will be discussed, highlighting the contribution made by him since 1994 as a communication and political public servant to the national development process.

The keynote speech will be made by an analyst on rural development, retired professor of the Department of Economics, University of Colombo Prof. Gamini Alwis,

Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa, MPs Dr. Harshada Silva, Gamani Valeboda, Entrepreneur Dilith Jayaweera, Former MP Sunil Handunnetti, Former Prime Minister’s Secretary S. Amarasekara, Senior Lecturer Mahinda Rana will speak at the forum.

The organizing committee invites people to join this scholarly conversational opportunity where the paths to create a strong rural, urban and semi-urban society will be discussed to eliminate poverty and other issues such as unemployment.

Liyanage’s knowledge, ideas and plans about the village development through the experience and practice he gained from holding positions at home and abroad has been presented in the programme “Let’s build a village of value.”

Liyanage was born in a beautiful village in Hinidumpattu, Galle, was blessed with free education, studied well at the village school, Batuangala Neluwa Maha Vidyalaya, attended Richmond College, Galle, and then obtained a degree in management and commerce from Ruhunu University.

He is a bona fide professional with a diploma and post-graduate qualifications in media and international affairs and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree.
